  3. Thanks for taking the time and effort to compile this, Naquia!! I have a question for the floor: who believes that it is fair to use the inverse, converse and contra positive of a statement when analyzing its meaning? For example, the Wittgenstein example posed today in class- would it be fair to reverse and manipulate the sentence to analyze it in its entirety??

    Thanks guys!!

  6. hey Naquia! thanks a lot for getting this started!:) really appreciate it!
    hey gayathri!
in response to your question,i think its absolutely fair to reverse an manipulate a sentence to analyze its meaning entirely because being literal about something doesn't always help understanding something. its very important to understand that a lot things people say could mean a lot of different things depending on the context its coming from. sometimes,a very normal standard statement could have an inside story or an underlying meaning.

  7. Hey Naquia :)!!! thanks a lot for starting this blog for us all :). m sure its d first time for most of us. and Im really looking forward to blogging on here :D!!! Gaya and Mayuri, yep i totally agree with you both. There could be so many interpretations of that one quote. What do you have in mind Gayathri??

  8. Gayathri your question is relevant but I believe there's always more to something than what appears. In fact, that's exactly what we did at class the other day in reference to the Wittgenstein quote. All four groups stripped the sentence and moved on to more than just the literal meaning of it. As all of you have said above which is true that there could be many many interpretations of the quote.
    Cheers!

  10. Hey all!! You're all very welcome!! =) Do let me know if you guys aren't able to access something like polls or anything =)
And gayathri, in response to your question, I believe that not only do you have to understand the literal meaning of any given quote, but also its inverse, converse and contra positive. I believe so because without knowing the complete meaning, there would be little to gain, for the literal meaning most anyone can confer.

  11. Hey Naquia...thanks for starting the blog!!!I know this is an extremely late response...but a response none the less!!!

Coming to gayathri's question,I think every sentence has many meanings to it.The literal meaning one gets by just reading the sentence once and other meanings to the same sentence can be inferred only when the sentence is analysed. So understanding the inverse, converse and contra positive is required to understand the sentence completely..:)

  12. Wow ! All of us have managed to say thanks, hi and discuss Gayathri's question on the same post. Why don't we take Gayathri's question and start a new post so that we can talk only about it ? And yes I have a reply to it to but I do not want to deviate from the regards we have here for Naquia for putting up our class blog ! =D

  13. yea!! thanks naquia for takin the initiative and making this happen....

that's a very interesting question what gayathri put forth.... there's alot to it than just the literal meaning of the quote!! but yea rithika you're right..... a person needs to understand the sentence completely in it's literal form only to analyse it further and think deep into matter....very true!!

kruthika's got a nice idea of starting a new post for this discussion!! let's get right to it then:-)
